I’d like to introduce you to some of the folks that make the shop what it is. Without their help and participation we would not be anywhere near as motivated nor successful. You could find yourself on these pages by Getting Involved!

Pete Bergstrom —

Pete Bergstrom

Pete Bergstrom

Pete is the founder and lead mentor of  G2g Wood & Boatworks. He brings a passion for developing positive mentoring attitudes and skills that he has gained from 40 years in business and the marketplace. Following a seven-year stint in the US Army as an AH-1S helicopter pilot, Pete jumped into the entrepreneurial ranks with an aerial photography service and a hobby shop in Tacoma, WA. He spent a total of 28 years in the retail, distribution, and product development phases of the radio control hobby industry before retiring from Horizon Hobby in 2014. Pete honed his woodworking skills mostly on RC aircraft, crafting the smooth lines and curves necessary to be a world-class racer, and now has transferred that experience and knowledge into larger, boat-shaped objects. He says the form is very similar, just requiring much larger pieces of wood and amounts of epoxy.

Chris Bennette  —

Christopher Bennette

Christopher Bennette

Chris is our lead apprentice. He has been working with me for about three years now, starting out working on the 14′ skiff for the boat-building program for our church youth group. Chris is going to be a senior in high school this year and has shown tremendous growth in his woodworking skills as well as his character. Chris loves playing trumpet in the marching band, takes all of the shop classes offered through the school, and spends most of his free time at G2g. He has grown into a mentor to younger students in his own right and currently plans a career in welding after graduation.

Rory Schweigert —

Rory Schweighart

Rory Schweighart

A professional photographer by trade, Rory came to the shop as the sponsor for our first canoe project, stating that “a strip-built canoe has always been a bucket list item.” In addition to photography, he brings a background in car restoration and is currently working on a massive home remodel. He is currently a student/mentor in our program, learning the woodworking skills necessary to build his first canoe and spending a lot of time with Chris in the process.

Joe Caldwell —

Joe Caldwell

Joe Caldwell

Joe is our most recent mentor/student to join the group. Joe is a master at carving gorgeous duck decoys and has earned a worldwide reputation for his talents. We’ll be starting a duck boat project with Joe this fall, once we have moved the 14′ skiff out of the shop. He has a passion for duck hunting with his son and wants to craft his own boat to do this. Welcome, Joe!

Last but not least is –

Chad Woodrum — (He’s too shy for a picture)  Chad is a master carpenter and cabinetmaker by trade and has been operating his own cabinet-making business for many years. Chad supports the shop with tools, talent, and woodworking knowledge/wisdom that we don’t have internally. He has been a great resource throughout the year and is always there when we need him.

If you would like to add your name to this roster be sure and check out our Get Involved Page to join our team of Apprentices and Student/Mentors. Everyone is invited!!

Remember – Live the mentoring life!
